One of the things that turned me off to normal trading was how intimidating it was. There was all that talk about regulations, buying, selling, following the opening and closing of markets around the world… it was just a lot. Too much for me, so even though I liked that you could make money out of it, I was always afraid that I couldn’t get anywhere with it unless I went to back to school and got a degree in business.

I was pretty skeptical when I first heard about people doing trades online. That seemed like a scam, my impression of trading had always been people at the London Stock Exchange going down to a major building and doing all the big business on a trading floor. That’s always the impression that I got about investments, it was big business for people that pretty much lived in a completely different world from the rest of us, and the rest of us were never going to get to take part in any of that.

I knew this was the 21st century, so computers had to be involved in trading in some way, but I thought it would be some special network or infrastructure that only professional traders had access to.
